Innovative interactive e-fiction

On 27 February 2012, I began writing a new interactive e-novel for Fiction Express called TIME DETECTIVES: THE MYSTERY OF MADDIE MUSGROVE. This story is aimed at 9-11 year olds and features two young time travelling sleuths who must journey back to Victorian times to try and save the life of an innocent girl. As with Soul Shadows (see below), readers are given a choice of two or three options at the end of each chapter, and can vote on how they would like the story to continue.

This story is being sold directly to schools, and should be a useful resource for teaching literacy. Each chapter goes live at 3 pm on Friday afternoon, and children have until 3 pm the following Tuesday to cast their votes.

Over the summer of 2011, I wrote SOUL SHADOWS through online imprint Fiction Express.

I wrote an episode a week for ten weeks. At the end of each episode, readers were given options and could vote to determine what happened next in the plot.

With episodes released every Friday at 3:30 pm, readers had until 10.00 am the following Monday to cast their votes.

It was a fantastic experience, and I want to thank all the readers who took part. Writing is usually a private business. The opportunity to interact with an audience on a week-by-week basis and collaborate with readers on plot development was tremendously exciting, and I was really grateful for all the positive feedback I received from bloggers.

Fiction Express are currently seeking a publishing partner to produce a print version of SOUL SHADOWS and the other titles on their list. I'll update this page with any further progress on that front.
